There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me. John 16:12-15
Who is the most important person on Earth today? I doubt many Christians would get this question right on the first try. Would it surprise you if I told you that the most important person on Earth is not the Queen of England or the President of the United States, its the Holy Spirit. This may shock some of you, Jesus is not the most important person on Earth today. That position solely belongs to the Holy Spirit- who alone is authorized to reveal both the Father and Jesus. Jesus so wanted us to receive the Holy Spirit that He told His stunned disciples that it was to their advantage that He departs so that the Holy Spirit could take His place. If the Lord Jesus so highly esteems the Holy Spirit how are you “Hosting the Holy Spirit in your life?” This is the subject of this week’s blog. I want to challenge you to take your relationship with the Holy Spirit very seriously.
In the above passage of Scripture, the LORD tells us “there is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now!” This expression dispels long-held religious notions that God desires to operate in eternal mystery; thus, we cannot expect to know all that can be known about God. Nothing could be further from the Truth. A God who goes through the meticulous effort of penning 66 books to reveal Himself to His creation is not a God who enjoys seeing His creation grapple in the dark helplessly trying to understand Him and His ways! It is clear from the statement made by Yeshua that God longs for His people to come into a consciousness of so much more! Thankfully, Yeshua’s desire to reveal Himself and the Father who sent Him did not end in frustration. To the contrary, His deep longing for His people to know more of His person and Kingdom ends in a glorious solution – the unveiling of the person and ministry of the precious Holy Spirit.
Unveiling the Ministry of the Holy Spirit
The Lord Jesus Christ unveils the glorious ministry of the Holy Spirit around five main pillars that we will explore briefly and how they relate to the subject of being consciousness of the presence of the Holy Spirit. I personally define “Consciousness” as the awareness of the daily experience and interaction of our spirit and soul with the Holy Spirit. True biblical consciousness, unlike consciousness as described by many in the New Age movement, involves the daily interaction between our spirit and soul with the Holy Spirit. Having established this fact, it follows that everything Yeshua ascribes to the ministry of the Holy Spirit has a direct impact on the subject of consciousness and hosting the Holy Spirit. Thus, the power of consciousness lies in the fact that consciousness allows the believer to constantly engage the reality of the living God in unbroken communion through the indwelling presence of the blessed Holy Spirit.
The Five Pillars of the Ministry of the Holy Spirit
- When the Spirit of truth comes;
- He will guide you into all truth;
- He will not speak on His own but will tell you what He has heard;
- He will tell you about the future;
- He will bring Me glory by telling you whatever He receives from Me.
Firstly, we will start by examining the expression, “When the Spirit of truth comes” and how it relates to the subject of spiritual consciousness. When the Spirit of truth comes means that no human being can truly enter the domain of true biblical consciousness until he or she receives the Spirit of Truth! This completely eliminates every person in the so-called New Age movement who does not acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of the world. Acknowledging Christ as Lord and Savior is the first stepping-stone to receiving the Spirit of Truth, who is the blessed Holy Spirit. Why does Yeshua call the Holy Spirit the Spirit of Truth? It is because the Scriptures in both the Old and New Testaments demonstrate that the Spirit of God is the supernatural search engine of the Godhead.
But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us (1 Corinthians 2:10-12).
God’s Search Engine
Before the world was mesmerized by the technological discovery of super search engines such as Google, Bing or Yahoo, the Bible refers to the Holy Spirit as the master search engine in all of creation. There is nothing that is within the realms of truth and error that the Holy Spirit does not know. The Scriptures declare that the Spirit searches all things, even the deep things related to the Godhead. This is why knowing the blessed Holy Spirit intimately is the holy grail of true spiritual consciousness. Without this intimate knowledge of the Holy Spirit, how can we know if what we call “consciousness” is rooted in the truth or in error? This is why many in the New Age movement, who are sincerely passionate about the subject of consciousness, end up worshipping their ego and demonic entities in the name of consciousness. They end up sitting on the thrones of their own hearts as God, which is the greatest deception of all. Such a take on consciousness makes them an easy prey for the devil who is roaming around like a roaring lion seeking persons whose souls he can devour. We can never truly know the truth from a lie because Truth is a Person and only the Holy Spirit can effectively reveal this person – the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the essence of the Truth. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6 KJV). If you truly desire to know Jesus…you must learn how to effectively “HOST” the precious Holy Spirit. Have you ever hosted special guests in your home? What advance preparations did you engage to prepare for their arrival? Hosting the presence of the Holy Spirit is millions of times more valuable than hosting special guests in your home.
Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me so much that you have made provision for me to know the person of the Holy Spirit. Lord Jesus, you so valued the Holy Spirit that you left Earth so that the comforter could come and take your place. Lord Jesus help to host the presence of the Holy Spirit like you did when you were on Earth. In Jesus name, I pray!
