You are a Product of God’s Foreknowledge, don’t become
a Victim of Man’s Misinformation!
Who do the people say that I AM, is without a doubt one of the most important questions Jesus ever asked His apprentice disciples whom He was prepping to become foundational apostles of the New Testament church. Since God is the “answer” before the “question” is even asked, Jesus was not really in search of an answer to a question He had no answer to. He wanted to use the loaded question to teach His disciples and the rest of us, one of the most important lessons about protecting our identity and kingdom assignment from the train wreck of man’s misinformation. When the disciples began to give Him answers as to whom the people thought He was, it was painfully obvious why He asked the question in the first place.
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”14 “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.”15 Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.18 Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.” Matthew 16:13-19
When the answers started rolling in, boy were they wrong! Every answer from the prevailing culture as to the true and authentic identity of Jesus was totally off target. They had no clue as to who He was! They were completely misinformed as to who He was; principally because Christ can only be known by “revelation and not via “information.” When Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden tree (the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil) they fell from the realm of revelation into the realm of information. Since then mankind grapples tirelessly in this realm, trying to understand the mysteries of God in nature. After many years of scientific research and much trial and error, Thomas Edison finally discovered the light bulb. In the eternal realm of revelation fueled by God’s foreknowledge, God sits majestically in Heaven wondering why it took thousands of years to discover something as basic as the light bulb. And yet how many of God’s children are defined by other people’s misguided opinions of them.
There is nothing more potent and life changing than revelation that is inspired by the Holy Spirit. Without revelation, we are left to dig through man’s distorted view of reality, which we affectionately call the “information age.” Unfortunately, information is a product of fallen man while God is the only One who produces the product called revelation. The advent of the Internet, Google, Yahoo and Bing search engines and the rise of social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter has led to the mass proliferation of information. Yet man’s spiritual condition, for the most part, has only grown worse. Even with the mass proliferation of information, most humans are very ignorant as to their true purpose, worth and inherent God-given potential. Man’s ignorance of his purpose inevitably causes him to misunderstand the purpose of the created order around him.
Once upon a time, eons ago, long before there was “anything,” God existed only as Himself! In a God moment, He decided to create a special, life-sustaining planet called Earth. In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth (Genesis 1:1), marks the beginning of the most important book in the Bible. Central to the divine intent for creating this special planet was God’s “Big Idea” to create spirit children housed in bodies of dirt (Earth) that can dominate and subdue the Earth on behalf of the Kingdom of Heaven. These spirit-beings were created in the image and likeness of God. This means that whenever God wants to see how He looks like up-close, He looks at Man! This means God looks at “You,” to see a reflection of Himself! So why are you allowing other people’s misinformation about your true identity and value to determine what God can do through and for you? It’s important that you prayerfully consider my question- because your very existence depends on it! This is why I don’t rely on Google to let me know people God intended for me to know by the Spirit. Google’s information about people is static and not dynamic. Sometimes, people who want to destroy the reputation of people they hate or are jealous of place information about them on Google. Google does not know when someone who was a failure yesterday is having a life-changing encounter with God. My CHALLENGE to you this week is to take INVENTORY of things you believe about yourself that do not line up with what God’s Word says about you! Then, one by one renounce them in Jesus name and then embrace what God says about you!!!
Heavenly Father, thank you for creating me in your image and likeness. I know that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. You designed me a winner and gave me a purpose for living. Heavenly Father, forgive me for believing man’s misinformation about me rather than your foreknowledge about me. Holy Spirit, I ask you to unshackle me from all the opinions of men that do not line with the Word of God and the purpose you created me for. In Jesus name, I pray!
