But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, 16 to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood, Galatians 1:15-16

A couple weeks ago I asked my followers on Facebook to give me some ideas on some of the topics that they would like for me to talk about in my blog. One of the suggestions we received was from a person who wanted me to do a short teaching on “The Call of God!” So here we go. I happen to love this subject because it’s very personal to me. Apart from the impact the call of God had on my life, I would have become an accountant or soccer player by profession. So how did I end up as an apostle and prophet to the nations? The answer is rooted in understanding the spiritual dynamics of the call of God. So let us look at some of the dynamics of the call of God by dissecting Galatians 1:15-16. Paul the apostle above all others had an incredible revelation on the call of God.

  1. But when it pleased God: The call of God is essentially what God is pleased with doing in you and through your life. This means that man does not decide “the Call of God” otherwise it wouldn’t be called the call of God.
  2. Who separated me from my mother’s womb: This statement means that God separates us for the call we are to fulfill in this life in our mother’s womb. So the call of God is not something you create for yourself its something you get to discover with the help of the Holy Spirit. I want you to know that no matter what you are going through right now, you were separated for the call the Lord has on your life from your mother’s womb.
  3. And called me through His grace: This statement means that God calls us by grace and not because we deserve it. So whatever the Lord has called you to do, you cannot look down on anybody who has a different calling from you, because we are all nothing without the grace of God. This statement also means that grace is the supernatural power God uses to accomplish the call of God upon our lives.
  4. To reveal His Son in me: This statement exposes a very powerful principle that governs the call of God upon each of our lives. The purpose of the “Call of God” no matter what it is, is first and foremost to “reveal Jesus” in the person who is “called” and the people they are called to. This means that Jesus is the most essential ingredient of any call of God.
  5. That I might preach Him among the Gentiles: This statement underscores the fact that the call of God upon anybody who is called by God is towards a “special group of people.” In Paul’s case it was towards the Gentiles. In Peter’s case it was towards the Jewish people. In Daniel’s case it was towards the Babylonians. In Mother Theresa’s case it was towards the poor children of the slams of Calcutta, India. In Jesus’ case it was towards “all who have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” So who are you called to?
  6. I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood: This statement is a critical feature in fulfilling the call of God. The mistake most people make when they sense the call of God upon their life is that they “confer” or depend upon the opinions of others on how to harvest the call of God upon their life, before they have conferred with the God who called them in the first place. More often than not if we don’t get the mind of God about the call of God upon our life, people may just confuse us; especially if the magnitude or size of our calling is higher than the ones advising us. Most people tend to reduce the size of your dream than make it bigger.

Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me so much that you separated me from my mother’s womb. Heavenly Father I thank you for the call of God upon my life. Holy Spirit I am trusting you to reveal Jesus in me. Help me to recognize who and what I am called to in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
