If a Lizard can do it: SO CAN YOU!

Your life was designed to unlock the eternal gratitude of people around
You, but to discover your “generational contribution” you must
be delivered from a self-centered spirit! Francis Myles

“Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke? 7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? 8 Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Isaiah 58:6-8 (NKJV) (NKJV)

This week, a Nigerian friend of mine sent me an article on the popular application, “WhatsApp” that I found pretty interesting that I want to share with you. It’s the story about a Lizard.

“This is a true story that happened in Japan. In order to renovate his house, a Japanese man broke open the wall. Japanese houses normally have a hollow space between the wooden walls. When tearing down the walls, he found that there was a lizard stuck there, because a nail from outside had been hammered into one of its feet.

When he checked the nail, he immediately realized that it was nailed 5 years earlier, when the house was built. That meant that the lizard had survived in that position for 5 years. In a dark wall partition for 5 years without moving an inch, it was impossible for anything to survive for that long. So he stopped his work and observed the lizard, to see what it has been doing, and how it has been eating. Soon from nowhere came, another lizard, with food in its mouth. He was stunned and touched deeply. For the lizard that was impaled by the nail, another lizard had been feeding it for the past 5 years. Imagine…it had been doing that untiringly for 5 long years, without giving up hope on its partner. Imagine what a small creator can do, that superior creatures like us, blessed with a brilliant mind fail to do for our fellow men?” End of Story

The life applications of this story are endless, but it suffices to say that the world we live is in “turmoil” and ravaged with endless wars because the sickness of the “me first” mentality plagues us all. After observing human behavior, including my own, I have come to the sobering conclusion that the most miserable existence is an existence that orbits around “self.” Mother Theresa is not fondly remembered, reverentially by millions of people, especially in India by accident. People remember her long after her death because she broke the kernel of “self-centeredness” and started living for the benefit of others. She chose the slams of Calcutta over the comfort of a Catholic convert.  Jesus is remembered and worshipped by millions of people for the same reason. He laid down His life to atone for the sin of all of mankind. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends, John 15:13.” Jesus could have left us to rot and die in our sins and be permanently separated from God the Father, but like the self-less Lizard in our story, Jesus left the unspeakable glory of heaven, became a man and later became the “suffering servant” for our salvation. How many Christians quickly give up on their brothers and sisters in Christ, when they are down on their luck? May God help us to love and care for each other like Jesus does. I challenge you to do something special or perform a caring act for another member of the body of Christ. Tell me how you feel afterwards!

praythisaloud

Heavenly Father, thank you that when the Lord Jesus died and shed His blood for me on the Cross, He made it possible for me to live a life that unlocks gratitude in the hearts of people around me. Heavenly Father, you have called me to love and care for my all mankind, especially for the household of faith, In Jesus name, I pray!
