When Saying “Thank You” Means Everything!

If your life is not unlocking the gratitude of your generation, you are misaligned with God’s purpose for your life! Francis Myles

Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. 12 Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. 13 And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” 14 So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. 17 So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? 18 Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” 19 And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.” Luke 17:11-17 (NKJV)

Nothing grieves the heart of God like an “ungrateful spirit.” God is outrageously generous, but like all givers, heartfelt “gratitude” from recipients forges the foundation for “more giving” from the giver. Have you ever given someone who was stranded by the road a ride to work, only to see them jump out of your car at their destination without bothering to say “Thank you?” How did you feel? I don’t have to be a rocket scientist or a prophet to tell you that you probably felt “used”. What do you think you will do next time you see the same person by the side of the road trying to hitch a ride? If you are like most humans, you will probably just drive by. A “spirit of entitlement” is what people ascribe to people who abuse the generosity of others.

Leprosy the most dreaded disease of the ancient world!

In the ancient world of Jesus there was no disease that was more dreadful than being found with “leprosy.” This disease was not only deadly, but it also carried the highest level of shame and public humiliation. Lepers were housed outside the city gates and compelled to wear bells on their feet as a matter of law. These bells had a unique sound that warned the “healthy in society” that a leper was coming. How demeaning was this? How would like to make that kind of an entrance in a public space? Additionally, lepers were not allowed to enter the house of God to worship, this to me was worse than death. It’s no wonder the Syrian general Naaman (2 Kings 5) was terrified when he discovered that he had been struck with leprosy.

With this backdrop in mind, you would think that ten lepers who are healed miraculously from such a dreadful, shaming-disease would move heaven and earth to return and say “Thank You” to the deliverer! However, this is not what happened. Of the 10 lepers only 1 of them returned to say “Thank You” to the deliverer! Prophetically speaking this shows us that 90% of people on planet Earth suffer from a spirit of ingratitude and entitlement. Wow! Are you in that 90% of ungrateful people?

In America we have just entered the most festive week in the United States, “Thanksgiving!” Americans in 50 States are going to be sitting around thanksgiving dinner tables to eat well cooked Turkeys. Americans trace the Thanksgiving holiday to a 1621 celebration at the Plymouth Plantation, where the settlers held a harvest feast after a successful growing season. Since then “Thanksgiving” has been a time that Americans of all creeds have gathered to give thanks to God and to the people who have helped shape their lives. However, in the Kingdom of God, giving “Thanks” is not limited to a special festival. Giving of thanks is an integral part of the culture of the Kingdom. Make a life long decision today! Become a person who unlocks gratitude in everybody you come into contact with. You never know when “saying Thank You” is the “price of admission” to everything God promised you!

Heavenly Father, thank you that when the Lord Jesus died and shed His blood for me on the Cross, He made it possible for me to live a life that unlocks gratitude in the hearts of people around me. Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I have been ungrateful and failed to acknowledge your eternal goodness. I make a life long commitment to giving God my offering of thanksgiving, In Jesus name, I pray!
